Question by StephenWeinstein: What documentation is required for paying health insurance by credit card?
Blue Cross charges my health insurance premium to my credit card each month automatically. I do not sign a separate credit card authorization each month and I do not get a receipt. Will the credit card statements be enough for tax purposes, or do I need to request an actual receipt from the insurance company?

Yes. You wouldn’t need to show proof unless you were examined or audited, and the credit card statements would suffice as proof of payment.

Why is paying extra taxes to help others have health care a bad thing? If you lost your job, wouldn’t you want others to pay taxes to help you afford health insurance?
Robert O- And, what if somebody led a healthy lifestyle but just happened to get cancer and can’t afford health insurance?

Curt J- And so what if I do? I will bet you think the same thing about yourself.

When is Congress going to start paying for their own health insurance?

Question by landm: When is Congress going to start paying for their own health insurance?
Everybody is all up in arms about “National Health care”, but the members of Congress benefit from free health coverage that is being paid by hard working Americans like myself. How about someone suggesting that the members of Congress start paying for their own health coverage?

Not true. Completely false. Members of Congress have the same health care coverage, and pay the same premiums, as any other federal employee — which is roughly on a par with any good health care plan in any other industry. The belief that they get “free health coverage” is an urban legend.

Here’s the truth:

Q&A: How are you paying for health insurance if you are one of the millions recently laid off?

Question by wooper: How are you paying for health insurance if you are one of the millions recently laid off?
I know COBRA is available for many, but it is very expensive to keep up and runs only for a limited period. Questions like this have been asked before and those against governement supported health care just accused those who didn’t have health insurance as lazy losers. But with the economy crashing, the scenario has changed. If you aren’t employed anymore and have no income and little savings, what are you doing for health insurance?
TAT…I left my job and my COBRA payment was ,200 a month for me and my family. When you are unemployed, that is a LOT of money and not “reasonable” as you describe it. Many don’t have enough money for rent and food, much less that kind of money.

There are many things that are expensive. COBRA is reasonable. If insurance is important to someone they need to make that sacrifice. I guess we should be paying for their food and homes. Those are expensive and a necessity. Where does it stop?

Bad things happen. That is life. Hard times come and tough decisions have to be made. That still does not make it anyone else’s reponsibility to care for you. And you need to talk to COBRA again. That figure, according to the guy I just spoke to , seems inflated.
